Volume load is one training metric, not a complete measure of stimulus.

Volume = sets × reps × load

Volume load multiplies sets, reps, and external load. It helps compare sessions, track progressive overload, and talk about workload in plain numbers.

It does not capture proximity to failure, range of motion, tempo, exercise skill, or how fatiguing a movement is. Two sessions with identical volume load can feel very different.

Use volume load alongside performance, recovery, and exercise selection — not as a single scoreboard for training quality.
